Chanel Poudre Cristalline

Never- at any time in her life- did Gabrielle Chanel imagine that luxury could have any purpose other than to make simplicity appear remarkable. (Edmonde Charles-Roux, Chanel and her World: Friends, Fashion, and Fame)

There so many things that you could say about Chanel, but this statement is the one that resonates so completely with the contemporary company. I just recently purchased Poudre Cristalline, a loose, translucent powder. Gorgeous, and finely milled with the tiniest hint of shimmer that translates beautifully when applied to your face. Do not fear the shimmer, ladies. You will not look like a disco ball. This powder lasts all day, and it did not affect my skin negatively at all. It is expensive, and there are cheaper alternatives, like MAC or MUFE, or even the Laura Mercier. But this feels luxurious on the skin, and I've had my eye on it for a while. So worth it, in my opinion.

Review: Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm

I'll let you in on a little secret: I hate Burt's Bees lip products. I know I'm the only one. I tried to like them, I really did, but it's no use. I think they are expensive and overhyped. Thing is, that wouldn't even bother me if they actually helped my dry lips. But everytime I would use it, the dryness wouldn't get better (sometimes, it would even get worse). So I just gave up. Then the new tinted lip balm came out, and I decided to give it another go so I bought it in the shade 'Red Dhalia.' Well, it still doesn't help my dry lips, but I love the colour. Hmmm..

If you don't like lipsticks, love the burt's bees formula, and want something light for summer- then I see no reason to not get this. It is not long lasting- understandable since it's just a lip balm though. It comes in a bunch of different shades, and it's really buildable.

Review: Sally Hansen HD Nail Color

God, sometimes nail polishes are just awful. You see a great colour, get all excited to try it out and then it's so much work just to apply it. But then it dries, and it looks amazing. This is my dilemma with the Sally Hansen HD nail polishes. I just bought the shade 'DVD' because it looks cool in the bottle. Bluey-purple, with loads of shimmer. I used a base coat, and then had to use 5 coats just to get the colour to look right!!! Plus the top coat, that brings the total coat count to 7. That's ridiculous. But you know what? It looks unreal on my nails. The colour changes from blue to purple depending on how I move my finger. Pretty cool, but such a pain! If you're lazy like me- not worth it.

Review: mark and AVON galore

AVON and mark are great. They are affordable, and if you choose right- pretty good quality. Admittedly, sometimes it's hit or miss, but there have been increasingly less misses for me. I just bought two AVON Ultra Color Rich Lipsticks (in Poppy Love, and Wineberry), mark bronzing powder (in Bronze Pro), mark just pinched instant blush tint (in Peachy). Swatches below!

The lipsticks: Poppy Love is a bright red-orange, great for summer and tanned skin. It's not sheer at all, so take that into consideration. Wineberry looks exactly how it sounds: wine coloured. This one is a bit more sheer, but also buildable. If you saw and fell in love with Emma Watson's recent Vogue cover but you're unsure of how to make it wearable- buy this colour. Both have good pigmentation, but aren't super long lasting- expect to touch this up, especially if you're eating, or going out.

Bronzing powder: Lovely, matte, brown bronzer. Hardly anything negative to say, really. Absolutely no orange in it at all, and no shimmer. Cost about $10. Win-Win.

Blush tint: Least favourite of the bunch, but still not bad. It goes on really nicely, and blends pretty decently. However, it doesn't last very long on the skin- it defintely needs to be set with a powder.

Review: Estee Lauder Pure Color Lipstick

Hello all,

This recent purchase of mine has just been begging for a review, because it's just so completely, and utterly fantastic. I was feeling a little risky, and bought number 73: Scarlet Siren, and I'm thrilled about the purchase. It's a very vibrant red, more so on the pink side rather than orange. The pigmentation is unreal, with one swipe, you're set. And guess what, it says its long lasting on the package- and they aren't lying. I wore this through dinner, and it didn't wear off. Considering it's a red lipstick, that's a pretty amazing feat. Moisturizing, and totally luxurious on the lips. It also comes in a bunch of other gorgeous colours, so fear not. It's a splurge, I will admit. So instead of buying two or three cheap lipsticks that make your lips feel like crap, buy just this one. You won't regret it. Swatch below!
